What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ‘Ray – kee’) is a Japanese word, which in essence means universal life force energy.
Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle, natural healing technique that relaxes to reduces stress and promotes healing and a balanced body, mind, and spirit.
The Reiki system
Reiki is an ancient healing form which can be traced back to early Tibetan Buddhist times. It was rediscovered in the early 1900’s by a Japanese scholar Dr Mikao Usui, after undertaking an extensive study of the healing phenomena of some of history’s greatest spiritual leaders. He dedicated his life to the practice and teaching of this method which he named Reiki, The Usui System of Natural Healing. Since the 1920s different systems of Reiki have developed – however, the five precepts or principles are common to all:
Reiki is grounded in the belief that life force energy flows within us all. When this life force energy is low, stress, illness and disease occur. Reiki works by improving this life force energy and bringing about a sense of peace and wellbeing and enhancing a person’s quality of life.
The true purpose of the Reiki method is to correct the heart-mind, keep the body fit, and lead a happy life using the spiritual capabilities humans are endowed with since birth.” – Dr Mikao Usui
Complementary therapies do not interfere with but support other therapies and wellness practices, treating the whole person and directing healing energy to where it is most needed for healthy maintenance. Reiki can:
– Provide deep relaxation
– Reduce stress and increase resilience
– Enable re-connection with self
– Boost confidence and provide clarity
– Assist pain management
– Improve immunity
Treatments are increasingly accepted in health and community care facilities including hospitals, hospices and cancer support units. Pamela Miles, leading US exponent on the integration of Reiki into mainstream healthcare writes:
“… studies that have been done so far have showed promising results for using Reiki to reduce stress, anxiety and pain. The data include objective measures (decreased stress hormones, improved immune indicators, decreased heart rate and improved blood pressure) as well as subjective improvements in anxiety and pain.” For more information, visit Reiki Australia.
It’s all about you. We provide the place and facilitate your healing – this is your time, space and energy to heal on emotional, physical and spiritual levels.
1hr treatments are conducted while fully clothed, may commence with a relaxing Tui Na head massage, and/or incorporate a Reflexology foot or hand relaxer massage. Your choice of pure essential aromatherapy oils can be used on request (diffused an/or in hand/foot massage) to relax or re-energise.
Your practitioner Jess Woodside accesses Reiki and Seichim energy, placing her hands directly on, or just above each of the seven chakra positions, as well as anywhere on your body that needs support.
This energy is able to penetrate the body at a deep cellular level; it is drawn to where it is needed and accelerates your own innate healing ability. It can also help to still and open your mind to bring about greater self-awareness and help you identify the underlying causes of your ‘dis – ease’, giving you the clarity and confidence to make the changes needed to be the best you.
During your treatment you may feel warmth or tingling, experience a range of emotions, or just deep relaxation. Your stomach might gurgle; you could fall asleep, and perhaps stay asleep for the whole treatment. All of these are fine. As you are an individual, your experience is unique to you.
Jesse Woodside is a Professional Member #4552 of the Reflexology Association of Australia (RAoA), and Reiki Australia Accredited Treatment Practitioner #773 and uphold their code of ethics and professional conduct; and complies with the COAG National Code of Conduct for Healthcare Workers (QLD).
